about

"Sumadh’s craft has evolved to a point where harmonic savvy and incisive turns-of-phrase effortlesly take centre-stage." The Thin Air

Having finished 2019 with gigs supporting both Malojian and Junior Brother, new ‘Skeleton Waltz’ arrives, fittingly, in surreal times. Recorded at Millbank Studios, this latest offering featuring Michael Mormecha on drums and artwork by renowned Belfast creative Andrew Train (Giraffe Stairs Tattoos), it follows cancellation of recording sessions and ahead of the release of more new material from the Scots-Canadian musician.

With proceeds sales of the song on Bandcamp going directly towards Help Musicians NI, to help them continue their essential service in supporting local musicians working in all genres, it’s an inspired full-band effort, evoking everything from early Pixies to mid-era Eels.

lyrics

Skeleton Waltz (lyrics)

I was w/ you when the sun went down
You were w/ me wearing its crown
Up on the rooftop making it sound
Like there’s no one around.

Bullet seas were on their way
We had come so far that day
Hustling history’s tunes away
That’s because you waltz that way

Just when I thought that I’d seen the light
To keep me warm, to keep me bright
I thought “what did I do?”, “what did we do?”
Something break through

Soon the day turn into dust
Finds me lying in the dust
Centuries all filled with rust
The greatest age, the biggest bust

Look at the sky she said to me
The stars are all in symmetry
Jupiter Mars & Mercury
It never made much sense to me

Misty morning make my day
Tell me how we got this way
What did I do what did we do?
Im so sick of screaming

I was in bed when the church bells rang
High as hell when the voices sang
Heard the shots when the gun went bang
And I thought I was dreaming

Some they scream some they pray
Armageddon on it’s way
Whatever they do whatever they say
It’s just because they waltz that way

"Give thanks to the Green Muse, Buddha
Give thanks, Herman Hesse, Hakim Bey
Hare Krishna is on it’s way
Zion Zion on it’s way
Apocalypse - it’s on it’s way
Armageddon - it’s on it’s way
Whatever you do whatever you say
That’s because you waltz that way…”
